Cache Acceleration Software introduces by Intel for Linux – now Linux is ready to accelerate

In today's era of multi programming and multi CPU servers arise a new problem of better performance with moderated price of servers and storage device. Then what to do for making an effective system that can perform both the task. Intel gives its solution with memory cache .Intel's cache operation accelerate the targeted application without any extra hardware on server system using virtual machines.

Cache Acceleration Advantages -

  • Transparently Accelerate Applications
  • Application Specific IOPS
  • Increase Storage Performance, Decrease Latency
  • Multi-Level Caching
  • Increase VM Density

Intel worked for Microsoft windows till the day not came when it launches its Cache Acceleration Software (CAS) for Linux OS.
Intel's flash storage provider announces its CAS for Linux which is compatible with Solid - State Drivers (SSD) for data canters.

Intel Cache Acceleration Software alongside SSD is an industry that supplies application specific performance on physical servers and virtual machines via Selective Optimized Caching. It boosts up the performance 18 times as like a quick transaction system for read applications.

Now it will offer Cache Acceleration Software alongside NAND support in storage classes. It will also provide the facility of virtualization for hot data on cache. Intel’s storage manager said that "It’s not only about the performance but also about the stabilization of performance in every condition."

It will boost up the performance and will not be affected from storage area network (SAN). Intel's previous Cache Acceleration Software comes from NEVEX. The use of CAS alongside NAND flash is hot in market. It is also accepted by SanDisk, Samsung earlier for better performance of flash.

Specifications:-

 Support

  •  Window 64-bit Server 2008
  •  64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6, Centos 5/6, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11* SP1
  •  VMware, Windows Hyper-V, KVM, Citrix XenSever

Storage

  • Any primary storage device

Flash/SSD requirements

  • Validated with Intel family data center

Application support

  • Any I/O applications, Microsoft exchange etc

Management user interface

  • GUI for handle cache operations

Intel Cache Acceleration Software targets those applications which need it most and boost their performance with providing them IOPS from primary storage to the servers themselves, providing a win-win with previous storage spends.

Intel is not only the SSD maker in the market san disk and Samsung also uses this technology.

Intel's senior analyst Flint says that in standard conditions Cache Acceleration Software can trip late the performance of CPU on a single task.

Intel's Cache Acceleration Software software gives a balanced integration between the standard server DRAM cache and the Intel SSD cache, by creating a multi-level cache system automatically determines the best cache level for active data.

SolusOS rise of new era in world of Open sources

SolusOS
SolusOS

About SolusOS:-

It nothing but a operating system of modern world/era. It is based on Debian (the most popular Linux distribution). It  support all our today’s computing needs including features are word processing, file sharing, editing, audio/video playback and more.
It’s your turn to enjoy all of the comforts of the modern desktop.

Once you have installed this OS you’re ready to go. Internet browsing plays latest 3D games, sit back and watch a DVD. We can manage our MP3 collection all from one system.

News about SolusOS 1.3:-

SolusOS 1.3 is on his way. However several compromises will likely have to me made. We are no longer planning EFI support for this release, as its put us at a total stalemate. However an updated ISO with newer kernel will be released.

An updated kernel is also planned, however the LiveCD may have to use an older kernel to boot itself. The installed system will use an updated kernel.

SolusOS 2 Alpha 7

This release is intended to demonstrate the Consort Desktop, which will be the flagship desktop of SolusOS 2. “Please note that this is an alpha release and should not be used in a production environment”-Team. Currently only the 32-bit PAE ISO is available for testing.

Availability of software versions

Firefox 18.0
Consort-panel 1.0.1
Athena 1.0.3
Thunderbird 17.0.2
Consort-session 1.0.1

Consortium 1.0.4

Athena File Manger
Athena File Manger

About Alpha 7 release:-

This release now features the Consort Desktop, which is a fork of the GNOME Fallback Desktop + Components (3.4). This will eventually be a distro-agnostic desktop environment providing the classic experience of GNOME 2 in a GTK3 environment. We encourage everyone to test, not just the distribution, but the desktop itself.

Issues

GParted complains about a recursive error on /dev/hdc, this is kernel related
VirtualBox/DKMS has problems and will not install, again due to kernel problems
Consortium may crash when disabling compositing but it will restart.

This is a newly introduced bug and is being looked into Volume Applet appears to take a while to load (This is being rewritten soon)

SolusOS 2 Alpha 6

This release is intended to demonstrate the potential of the new Desktop Environment being developed for SolusOS 2. “Please note that this is an alpha release and should not be used in a production environment”-Team.
Currently only the 32-bit PAE ISO is available for testing.

Availability of software versions

Firefox 18.0

About Alpha 6 release:-

In this release team are showcasing the SolusOS 2 (new Desktop Environment for). Originally based on GNOME 3.4 yet does not feature GNOME Shell. Base idea is to restore the traditional desktop metaphor as seen in GNOME2, and expand on it.

To do this many components of GNOME have been patched, and in some places forked.Team have Athena, Athena is nothing but a shiny new file manager. This is a fork of Nautilus 3.4.2 and restores some sanity in terms of the user experience.

A full length customizable and awesome toolbar is present, main needed functionality, like shortcuts, creating desktop etc. User interface is inspired by Nautilus Elementary 2.32.

Traditional interaction support by GNOME Panel and simple way to interact is, right click and add applets to the panel. It behaves identically to the 2.x GNOME Panel, barring the ability to lock applets, as they are located via (LEFT, CENTER and RIGHT) zones.

Issues

 Two main issues are:
Booting to black screen after installation. (if you are affected do one thing Please remove vga=792 from your boot line)
Crashing of Minitube immediately (A package update will follow to resolve this)

Decision of release

This ISO is based on Debian (with GDM logo) to provide a development and testing environment for the rest of the SolusOS 2 ISO’s. It will vastly simplify the production of the new system, and serves as a demonstration platform for what is evolving into the SolusOS Desktop Environment.

Fedora Linux 18 "Spherical cow" is now available in market.

Fedora Spherical cow

After a delay of approximate 2 and 0.5 months fedora Linux 18 “spherical cow” is finally released on 15 January 2013 which was previously scheduled on 6th November 2012. The main problem behind its delay was with fedora Linux anaconda, its software installation and update program.

The new Anaconda is designed to make installing Fedora Linux much smoother and faster experience. It supports installation from local and remote sources such as CDs and DVDs, images stored on a hard drive, NFS, HTTP, and FTP. It will also support python debugger.

Project leader of fedora Linux Robyn Bergeron said that in the future we will concentrate on 6 month release cycle. It’s particularly well-known for its business-focused features.

So what’s the new in Fedora 18"spherical cow”, the most new thing about it is its new interface for the installation procedure. Other key features in Fedora 18"spherical cow" are-

Samba 4:

It is a latest version of the suite of tools that provide file and print-sharing services in heterogeneous OS environments. Now, with Samba 4, open-source server program now supports Active Directory (AD).

System Storage Manager:

It is a command line interface tool that provides a unified storage management tools view. In the fedora 18 it will be more familiar while providing storage area networks (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS).

Mate desktop:

What is great in Linux is the availability of all "desktops” fedora 18 just looked this point very carefully and Fedora 18 is available in GNOME, KDE, Cinnamon and Xfce. The default option is GNOME and the desktop environment of the new Gnome 3.6 can be seen running on Fedora Linux desktop.

System update:

Fedora 18 will provide offline system update facility. This is only comes along with gnome desktop. It will provide us the critical software packages offline.

Eucalyptus/cloud support:

It is making a debue in fedora Linux 18. It will include with cloud software 3.2.

Programming language updates:

Fedora Linux 18 includes many updates to language and programming environment, including fresh versions of Python, Rails, D and Perl. System Tap has also been updated to the 2.0 release. This extends its capabilities for instrumenting code and other diagnostic capabilities, and gives those abilities to a greater pool of user access levels.

It also includes oVirt Engine, it is a virtualization management system and it will provide data centre ready virtualization management program.

It will also provide us secure boost that will enable boot on systems that have Secure Boot enabled. Fedora was the first project who worked with Windows 8's Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)

The most of the changes in the new version are mainly focused for system administrators.

Installation procedure:

Here are few steps two install it:
1.    Download
Fedora 18 iso image from here.
2.    For installation using
USB stick
3.    For installing using
DVD

So, over all there are many new features in fedora Linux 18. I haven’t install it yet as a desktop so I cant say about it but as its features it looks like it will be suitable for Linux server  work.
