News about SolusOS 1.3:-

SolusOS 1.3 is on his way. However several compromises will likely have to me made. We are no longer planning EFI support for this release, as its put us at a total stalemate. However an updated ISO with newer kernel will be released.

An updated kernel is also planned, however the LiveCD may have to use an older kernel to boot itself. The installed system will use an updated kernel.

About Alpha 7 release:-

This release now features the Consort Desktop, which is a fork of the GNOME Fallback Desktop + Components (3.4). This will eventually be a distro-agnostic desktop environment providing the classic experience of GNOME 2 in a GTK3 environment. We encourage everyone to test, not just the distribution, but the desktop itself.

VirtualBox/DKMS has problems and will not install, again due to kernel problems
Consortium may crash when disabling compositing but it will restart.

This is a newly introduced bug and is being looked into Volume Applet appears to take a while to load (This is being rewritten soon)

About Alpha 6 release:-

In this release team are showcasing the SolusOS 2 (new Desktop Environment for). Originally based on GNOME 3.4 yet does not feature GNOME Shell. Base idea is to restore the traditional desktop metaphor as seen in GNOME2, and expand on it.

To do this many components of GNOME have been patched, and in some places forked.Team have Athena, Athena is nothing but a shiny new file manager. This is a fork of Nautilus 3.4.2 and restores some sanity in terms of the user experience.

A full length customizable and awesome toolbar is present, main needed functionality, like shortcuts, creating desktop etc. User interface is inspired by Nautilus Elementary 2.32.

Traditional interaction support by GNOME Panel and simple way to interact is, right click and add applets to the panel. It behaves identically to the 2.x GNOME Panel, barring the ability to lock applets, as they are located via (LEFT, CENTER and RIGHT) zones.

Issues

 Two main issues are:
Booting to black screen after installation. (if you are affected do one thing Please remove vga=792 from your boot line)
Crashing of Minitube immediately (A package update will follow to resolve this)

Decision of release

This ISO is based on Debian (with GDM logo) to provide a development and testing environment for the rest of the SolusOS 2 ISO’s. It will vastly simplify the production of the new system, and serves as a demonstration platform for what is evolving into the SolusOS Desktop Environment.
